Up-and-coming independent Hip Hop artist, Five Steez, has released the much-anticipated music video for his song, ‘Slaving on the Plantation’ – a fan favorite from his 2012 debut album, ‘War for Peace’.
The music video, directed by The Board, shows the drudgery experienced by the average worker. Five Steez – in character as an employee – is seen waking in the morning and making his way to his office to work with a demanding boss.
Five Steez says that the song, produced by Inztinkz, is based mostly on his personal experiences. “I never realized how much it meant to people until I first performed it in 2010 long before the release of the album, and since then, I’ve always done it,” he says. “It transcends all barriers, including age and genre.”

The lyrics are a call to arms. A catalyst for turning complaints into a charge for what's right. "They say I'm the last of a dying breed," notes the rapper. This song is inspired by my own personal push forward, how it now parallels with larger societal trends, and a desire to want more for the people of this country."

As Ramadan begins, more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantánamo Bay continue their protest. More than 40 of them are being force-fed. A leaked document sets out the military instructions, or standard operating procedure, for force-feeding detainees. In this four-minute film made by Human Rights organisation Reprieve and Bafta award-winning director Asif Kapadia, US actor and rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), experiences the procedure.
