Shing Shing Regime ~ Everlasting Waves Ep (Las Ondas Eterna)

Everlasting Waves (Las Ondas Eterna) is a collaborative project with Durham, Ontario producer Double Profit and was inspired by The Regime’s travels and exploits over the course of the past year. Everlasting Waves merges the intensely cinematic with the calculated cool of classic days gone by. "We wanted to make a record like a ride on the shores between reality and the symbolic, something that makes you feel comfortable but also inspires you to see beyond the horizon," says Symmetry. Unlike their previous efforts, the Shing stuck to just one producer to prove the sonic direction on Everlasting Waves, resulting in a unique and soulful sound. "It was fun because we got to work with our own concepts in a very concentrated, private fashion. Double Profit knew the type of soundscape we were striving to paint and we went about it almost like an underwater science experience that nobody knew about. When I think of a Wave, that’s exactly how it comes…seemingly out of nowhere or from some place deep. Shoutout to the brother Double Profit for the beats, he gave us his best and we put together a masterpiece," explains Symm. "It's some oceanic, coast-to-coast, God-Hop shit we’re splashing."

Here is "Old Him", a song produced by my Zillas (Elan Wright & Nima Skeemz) 8,000 miles away back home in Seattle, written while on the night train to
Bangalore, India, and recorded in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, while severely sick from food poisoning (caused two months into my trip, after being convinced by my Indian friends to try KFC for the first time in my life).

Harlem World: Dapper Dan (Video)

With his eponymous store on 125th Street in Harlem, Dapper Dan pioneered streetwear in the early 1980s by co-opting luxury branding from the likes of Louis Vuitton and MCM and designing original menswear with high-end detail—including exquisite leathers, furs, and skins. First drawing neighborhood hustlers and friends, Dan eventually outfitted rappers and other celebs of the time, such as Eric B & Rakim and Mike Tyson, to name a few. Now, nearly thirty years after entering the clothing game, Dan is plotting his return to the public eye. The reclusive designer recently sat down with Life +Times to discuss his career—alongside childhood friend Pee Wee Kirkland—retracing Harlem history in the process.
